?The Eaglet? - Pre-WWII Leather Aviators? Flying Helmet in Phoenix, Arizona For Sale

Manufactured of russet-brown leather, by D. Buegeleisen of San Francisco, the inner medium-brown chamois lining has the Buegeleisen Eagle logo and trade mark stamped in yellow in the area of the right ear pad.
The manufacturer?s stamp displays the words: ?This is a genuine Eaglet,? nestled between the raised wings of the Eagle. Below the eagle is the name ?Buegeleisen,? ?San Francisco.?
The goggle retainer straps, each have a tangerine-colored Bakelite outer snap with ? ?The Eaglet? Helmet? embossed into the plastic. The only other notable physical features are the chin strap and buckle, and an uncommon widow?s peak at the front end of the central seam.
The Eaglet was apparently one of, if not ?the? earliest precursor of a style which eventually morphed into the Type A-11 leather aviator?s helmet so popular with AAF, AAC and NAF pilots in the later stages of WWII.
From hints in the book ?Vintage Flying Helmets and Aviation Gear Before the Jet Age,? I?m estimating the likely age of this helmet as mid-xxxxs to xxxx.
The condition is Very Good +, used. The helmet is fully intact with NO holes or tears to the leather inside or out.
